Where did we ever get the idea that it was kind not to be honest? Brutality and cruelty have no place, but to speak the truth in love will cause growth in ourselves and those who hear us.

When we fail to speak honestly, we are thinking more of ourselves than our neighbor.

And in order to speak honestly, we must live honestly. Might that be the main problem?

I remember as a kid watching TV, and at the end of the program the anchor -- I think it was Walter Cronkite -- would have a couple of minutes for commentary. In case you missed it, the word commentary was written in a corner of the screen (probably on a board behind him, in those days).

Today the distinction between reporting and commenting (facts and opinion) has blurred. Reporters who supposedly give us facts wrap them in wild interpretations that have little correspondence to reality. But once in a while, they go so far over the line, it's too much even for their tendentious bosses.
