The faddish U.S. word today
paints everything "extreme,"
but baser thrills and risky play
soon pale for lack of steam.

In our recent trip to the U.S., the catchword of the day was "extreme." Even extreme burgers! I have an upcoming article on this in the Magnolia Messenger, and did a short blurb November 1st in Uplift.

Could it be one more sign of man's attempt to get back to Eden (meaning, delight or pleasure)?

Today's lines were written for a challenge on a poetry site. (I get great ideas there.) This quatrain is my attempt to describe a bit of what Paul had to say about the inner struggle in Romans 7. Have you read it lately?
